Our exuberance of the election of Barak Obama as president of our country cannot be sufficiently expressed. The best we can come up with is this:
Since the beginning of the nation black people have been oppressed. They continue to be at the lowest rung of social and economic status. With Obama's election we see hope for us that this will be uplifting for African-Americans in many ways. And, when the lowest of us is uplifted, so are we all. Hope in just and fair policies here and abroad is being restored.
But, with all this optimism we remember this story told by the CIA agent in the movie "Charlie Wilson's War":
"This little boy, on his 14th birthday is given a horse. Everyone in the village says, 'How wonderful the boy got a horse,' but the Zen master says, 'We'll see.' Two years later the boy falls off the horse and breaks his leg and everyone in the village says, 'How terrible.' The Zen master says, 'We'll see.' Then, war breaks out and all the young men have to go out and fight except the boy can't because his leg's all messed up and everybody in the village says, "How wonderful!"
"And the Zen master says, "We'll see."
So, we now award the most prestigious Dalai Lama Dude! Award to our president elect
Barak Obama. Dude!
